Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport (short for Hangzhou Airport), known as Hangzhou’s air portal, is situated in the east of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, about 27 kilometers from the downtown city. The airport is an important air link in China, an airport for international scheduled flights and class 1 air portal.

Hangzhou Airport has been constructed in phases. The first phase was completed and put into use on December 28, 2000. Covering an area of 484 hectares, the airport has a 4E-level runway and a terminal building with a built-up area of 100,000 square meters. There is an independent port zone and complete port facilities in the airport.

The airport has made great progress since its opening thanks to the rapid economic and social development of Zhejiang Province. Now it has grown into one of China’s top 10 airports and among the world’s top 100 airports.

By the end of 2015, a total of 60 domestic and foreign airlines had started operations at Hangzhou Airport and the flights from the airport reach 131 destinations, including 94 domestic ones and 37 overseas cities.

On December 18, 2006, Hangzhou Airport started strategic joint venture and cooperation with Hong Kong International Airport, a top global airport, becoming the first wholly joint-venture airport on the Chinese mainland. Since then, Hangzhou Airport has learned and absorbed all the service concepts and management modes of its Hong Kong counterpart.
